Art Therapy

The British Association of Art Therapist (BAAT) define art therapy as “a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as a primary mode of expression and communication. With in this context, art is not used as a diagnostic tool but as a medium to address emotional issues which may be confusing and distressing.” Art therapy is not a art class although it could be a enjoyable activity. Also there is not need to have any previous experience with art media.

As a general rule, we recommend art therapy for people that have difficulties expressing or understanding their feelings (for example feelings that are to overwhelming or are hard to talk about). But in general, art therapy have been an excellence tool to work with differences difficulties and a big range of persons. The goals of treatments are develop in accordance of the demands and the necessities of each particular person or group. In children’s, it’s quite relevance because art is a naturalistic and comfort way of communicating.

For art therapists its important to address that using art its a excellent therapeutic tool to every person and professional,  but its no the same that art therapy. Art therapists need a credential to develop their work, because we work on an optimal level of expressing and transforming mentally, in a secure space.
